The WVU Dependent Employee Scholarship (DES) was established to assist legally dependent children (based on federal income tax returns) of benefit eligible employees on the main campus in Morgantown. Students wishing to be considered must be enrolled full-time as undergraduates or admitted freshmen or transfer students on the main campus in Morgantown. Selection is based on objective academic criteria and family income information. If chosen, the minimum award is $500 per year and the maximum is $1,650 per year.
Incoming freshmen applicants are required to have a 2.00 high school grade point average and a minimum score of 19 on the ACT test, or a minimum of 910 on the SAT test to be considered. For renewal, freshman recipients must maintain a minimum cumulative 2.50 GPA at the end of their freshman, sophomore, and junior years. Students must also earn at least 24 credit hours during the award year. If you are already a full-time WVU student, or a transfer student, and are applying for the DES for the first time, you must have at least a 2.50 cumulative grade point average on all college work to be considered. Academic progress is reviewed at the end of the spring semester. The scholarship is awarded for eight undergraduate semesters, or a bachelor’s degree, whichever comes first.
Students who are eligible to have their DES renewed must submit a renewal application. Students wishing to be considered for the DES must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA must be received by the federal processor by March 1, 2014, in order for DES applications to be evaluated.
No awards will be made for summer school classes. Resident and non-resident students will receive equal consideration.
If a recipient is awarded another WVU Scholars Program multi-year scholarship whose value is less than the value of the DES, the amount of the DES award may be adjusted, depending on funding availability. If a recipient is granted a WVU scholarship of greater value than the DES, the applicant may be passed over for a DES award, depending on funding availability. Should a recipient receive another scholarship or award after the DES disbursement, only future disbursements would be affected. There will be no retroactive reimbursement.DES Scholarship Application
